Tirupati Temple

Tirupati Temple, also popularly known as the Shree Venkateshwara Swami Temple, is often referred to as the earthly abode of Lord Vishnu since the Kali Yuga. One such story mentions sage Brighu. Once, the sage had a wish to know which god of the Holy Trinity was supreme. He consulted Lord Shiva and Brahma for the same but was content with the response. He then left for the ‘Vaikuntha’ and gave a chest kick to Lord Vishnu. This was where Goddess Lakshmi was living at that time. Offended Goddess Lakshmi left for Earth. 

 

When Vishnu finally found her, he discovered that Lakshmi had been born as Padmavati. Heartbroken, Vishnu left for the hillock, where Brahma and Shiva, disguised as cows, used to feed him. One day, finally, Padmavati and Venkateshwara met each other and got married. 

 

The wealth god Kuber enormously contributed to the marriage ceremony to make it grand. Lord kept on living in the Tirumala hills after the marriage, where later the temple was built. Since that time, Vishnu has been repaying the debt of Kubera, and devotees visiting Tirupati contribute to this debt repayment.
