About Mookambika Temple

Mookambika Temple is one of the popular Hindu pilgrimage sites. Located in Kollur, Udupi district, the temple attracts thousands of devotees every year. Kollur Mookambika Temple is one of the seven most sacred salvation spots. It is dedicated to the Goddess of strength and emotional power. 

 

Here, Mookambika is in the form of Adi Shakti. On the left side, the linga is integrated with Maha Lakshmi, Maha Kali, and Maha Saraswati. And on the right side, it integrates Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh. Mookambika Temple is the only temple to have Adi Shakti in such form.

The Kollur Mookambika Temple's history goes back to ancient times. According to ancient inscriptions and scriptures, the temple has been a place of worship for Devi Shakti for centuries.

 

Several local rulers and dynasties have donated to the temple's maintenance. The Keladi Dynasty is a popular name to give such donations. Other popular rulers include Shivappa Nayaka and Sankanna Nayaka, who renovated the temple and donated funds for its maintenance. The local kings made donations to drive away their enemies or to celebrate after winning wars.
