Cultural Significance of Celebrating Krishna Janmashtami

Krishna Janmashtami is of great cultural significance. This year we celebrate the 5253rd birth anniversary of lord Krishna. 

The cultural significance is tied to the birth stories of Lord Krishna, who is also known as the 8th avatar, or roop, of God Vishnu. The festival honours not just Krishna but also his parents, Maa Devaki and Vasudeva. Maa Devaki gave birth to Krishna, irrespective of the hard circumstances she had to struggle with while being in prison. Janmashtami celebrates faith in love and righteousness. It reminisces about Krishna’s victory over Kansh, the victory of good over evil.

  • Jhula Ceremony 

Jhula ceremony involves slightly rocking Krishna’s cradle with Krishna Janmashtami bhajans or lullabies. 

  • Parana

Once you’re done with aarti and prasad, you may break your vrat at Paran muhurt.
