ABOUT Tirupati TEMPLE
Om Namo Venkatesaya - Jagathsakshiroopa(one who stands as a witness to the whole world ),Lord Sri Venkateshwara’s abode in the renowned seven hills of Tirumala-Thirupathy till date stands as one of the holiest and ethereal shrines to seek his gracious blessings. While one gets to experience a feeling of joy through the climb of the mountains, this happiness turns to bliss as we approach the sanctum sanctorium and even happiness doesn’t tempt us when compared to the bliss we get when we get transfixed by his divine sight. The way up the hills, surrounded by the dense forests guarding the roads that lead way to his presence takes us to another world. The SvayamPrakasha(self luminous), svaagats (hindi – welcome)us with his prasadha , the highly acclaimed laddu. As one makes their way by feet around the temple in Tirumala, their mind literally is fed by the smell of ghee that constantly wafts through the air all the time. The haunting chants of ‘Om Namo Narayana, Namo Venkatesaya’ are a delight to the ears as one subconsciously succumbs to this nama japa that is said to reap immense spiritual and worldly benefits. One gets to be the blessed listener of the recital of ‘Vishnu Sahasranama’ which has such an effect that we resort to a state of silence and devotion. The act of tonsuring the head, or in layman’s terms, shaving of hair is an act of devotion that needs to be mentioned here. When one understands that this mortal body that we have is of little significance and should be used for the sole purpose of worshipping and offering service to the Lord, they are said to be on the path of moksha or liberation owing to their devotion. But such realisations don’t come without testing us for character and the senses that we are blessed by default is the foremost challenge. We often fall in the vicious cycle of kama or lust and beauty is a major driving force. While the hair on the head is seen as a sign of youth and desire, one must surrender this desire to the feet of the lord if they want to fill their heart with devotion and thus came into existence this practice of tonsuring their head. Thus, a trip to the seven hills to get the blessings of Lord Vishnu, gives us wisdom and experience to survive this mortal journey called life.
