Thanjavur, also known as Tanjore, is located in the state of Tamil Nadu. Thanjavur is one of the olden cities of India. It has a rich cultural history that can be traced back to the Sangam period. The town of Thanjavur was founded by Mutharayar king Swaran Maran. However, the peak of fame was achieved during the rule of the Cholas, who made Thanjavur their capital. After the Chola era, Thanjavur was ruled by several dynasties like Pandyas, Vijayanagar Empire, Madurai Nayaks, Thanjavur Nayaks and finally, the British. It became a part of Tamil Nadu after India’s independence. Thanjavur is well-connected with all the important cities of Tamil Nadu and the nearby states. There are regular bus services to the important cities like Chennai, Erode, Tiruchirappalli, Madurai, Coimbatore, Tirupur, Vellore and Dindigul in Tamil Nadu. Important cities of the south, like Bangalore, Ernakulam, Nagercoil, Tirupathi and Thiruvananthapuram also enjoy good connectivity with Tanjavur.
Coimbatore, also called as Kovai by the locals, is the second biggest city of Tamil Nadu. A major industrial hub, Coimbatore is often called the "Manchester of South India" because of the large number of textile mills operating from here. It is one of the major textile manufacturing centres of Tamil Nadu as well as India. Other important industries of Coimbatore include software services, education and healthcare services among others. Coimbatore was under the reign of dynasties like the Cheras, the Cholas, the later Pandyas, Vijayanagar Empire and the Madurai Nayaks, to list a few. They all contributed towards the distinctive culture and history of the city. Coimbatore is well connected with all the major towns and cities of India by road, rail or airways. There are many buses connecting it with other important cities like Chennai, Madurai, Ooty, Kodaikanal, Puducherry, Kochi, Bangalore, Tirupati, Hyderabad, Thiruvananthapuram and many more.
