Coimbatore, also called as Kovai by the locals, is the second biggest city of Tamil Nadu. A major industrial hub, Coimbatore is often called the "Manchester of South India" because of the large number of textile mills operating from here. It is one of the major textile manufacturing centres of Tamil Nadu as well as India. Other important industries of Coimbatore include software services, education and healthcare services among others. Coimbatore was under the reign of dynasties like the Cheras, the Cholas, the later Pandyas, Vijayanagar Empire and the Madurai Nayaks, to list a few. They all contributed towards the distinctive culture and history of the city. Coimbatore is well connected with all the major towns and cities of India by road, rail or airways. There are many buses connecting it with other important cities like Chennai, Madurai, Ooty, Kodaikanal, Puducherry, Kochi, Bangalore, Tirupati, Hyderabad, Thiruvananthapuram and many more.
Chidambaram is one of the most revered temple towns in the state of Tamil Nadu. It is situated at a distance of 58 km south of Pondicherry. Located in the central-east of Tamil Nadu in the Coleroon River Valley, Chidambaram was also known as ‘Thillai’ as the area was a forest full of Thillai Shrubs in the olden days. A unique feature of Chidambaram is that any person, irrespective of his caste and creed can come and worship at the temple here. One of the five holy places of the Shaivites, Chidambaram has been a holy place for long. Great sages like Vyagrapada and Patanjali were worshipped in Chidambaram from ancient days. Apart from the famous Nataraja Temple, Chidambaram is also home to other temples like the Kali temple and the Vaidyanatheshwara Temple. Some other temples located near the Nataraja Temple are the Arulmigu Thillaikali Amman Temple, Tiruvetkalam Temple, Vadieeswaran Temple, Sivakamiamman Temple and Chathapurinathar Temple, to name a few. Annamalai University and the Pitchavaram backwaters are the other attractions in the city, which attracts several travellers. These places are advantageously located within a few kilometers of the Nataraja Temple. Chidambaram is easily accessible by bus. Several bus services connect the place with the rest of the state.
bad experience. I had booked ticket from coimbatore to chidambaram. The bus was heading to pondicherry. I was told as I was the only passenger travelling to chidambaram it was not feasible for the company to drive the bus to chidambaram. THen why book the ticket in the first place? anyway I was dropped in a place 30 kilometres from chidambaram and I had to travel by local bus to reach my destination. Please this is the heights of bad service.
