About Tiruchendur

Thiruchengodu or Thiruchengode is a city located in Namakkal district of Tamil Nadu. It is a well-known pilgrim centre. It is in Thiruchengodu that the well-known Ardhanareeswarar hill temple is located. This temple finds mention in the ancient Tamil literary work, Chilapathikaram. Apart from this, the city also houses the Chenkottu Velavar temple, which is also a famous holy place. In the olden days, Thiruchengodu was called Thirukodimaadachenkundrur. According to legends, the red colour of the hill in the city is the reason why it got the name Chengode. The Ardhanareeswarar temple gave it holiness and, it came to be known as Thiruchengodu with the passage of time. Thiruchengodu is known for housing the first Gandhi Ashram in the country. Thiruchengodu is easily accessible by road as many state run and private operated buses ply from here to cities like Chennai, Coimbatore, Trichy, Erode, Salem, Namakkal, Karur, Bhavani, Bangalore, Hyderabad and so on.

    Worst bus ever traveled. it does not have shock observers at all. Entire night was disturbing with heavy vibrations. At small turning also felt that i will fall.
