Hi Redbus. This is a detailed experience of my bus bookings for date 18 & 26 March with Singh Tour & Travels. Please bear with me.
My ticket said 10.15 pm departure from Kaushambi Metro Station. At around 9pm, I called the provided number if there was a delay or not. I was told that this Pickup point was now shifted to EDM mall & no delay in departure. I never received any SMS / mail for the change of pickup point. The schedule mentioned departure from EDM mall at 10.30pm. Bus arrived at 11.30 & left at around 12.00. There was total chaos as nobody knew where exactly, near EDM mall, will the bus arrive. Of the 4 contact numbers provided in SMS, only 1 was working, and since all the passengers were calling it continuously, most calls were not replied. But everyone had boarded the bus by 11.45 & by the 12.15 (after filling the tank for 20 minutes, which should have been done before picking us up) we were on our way. Now about the bus. I have travelled multiple times by a bus & this was by far the least value for money kind of vehicle I have been in. Description said TV - there was none. There were no curtains, which made the 6 hours delay particularly irritating during peak noon hours. The AC was either full power or no power, which forced passengers to ask the crew to switch it on & off in every half an hour. It was not comfortable at all. But still manageable. Now, the details nowhere mentioned that Allahabad was a stop. But the drivers, who were going on this route for the very first time, went straight for the city. They dropped 2 passengers in the city, asking directions multiple times, only to get stuck up on a flyover in the wrong direction. The bus was caught by police, but the clever drivers flew past them. Luckily we were not chased by the police, or things would have been even more interesting. Our little detour through Allahabad cost us atleast 2 hours. And we reached Varanasi at around 4pm against 9am as shown in the schedule. Also, while chatting with the driver, I came to know it generally takes 14-15 hour from Delhi to Varanasi (instead of 11 hours shown in the details) but he wouldn't know better as it was the whole crew's first time for Varanasi. Also, the bus stopped 5 km away from the main Bus Stand saying that they were not allowed inside the city. I guess they just didn't have the proper licences.
Anyways, the highly forgettable experience that it was, I decided to go book again with Redbus & the same bus operator (as the only seats available in other bus were 'reserved for women'. Oh how i wish I was a girl on that day). I received a message saying that the pickup point has changed and it turned out to be the same location where they dropped us on 19th, only much farther to approach. the bus's scheduled departure was 7pm but since it was taking people a lot of time to find the bus, the bus finally left at 8pm. Interestingly, 4 guys, whose luggage was in the bus, went out to get something & couldn't make it by 8pm. As a result, the bus left with the luggage & without the passengers. About the Bus - There were no curtains, no TV. But the airconditioning was better. Hurray. This time too, around 10 seats were booked from Allahabad. But having learned from their previous experiences, the operator had asked the passengers to come to the main highway, around 15 km from the city, in the middle of nowhere, at 9 pm (which later on became 10.30 pm). The people who boarded the bus from Allahabad were naturally not happy, but things became worse, when 1 passenger couldn't make it to the highway, and the crew decided to take bus inside the city. After a lot of nagging with the passengers in the bus, the driver decided to ditch that passenger & we were on our way. The bus stopped near Secundarabad for its late night meal at around 3am, when the 4 guys who had 'missed' there bus in Varanasi arrived in a different bus. Apparently, our driver (who I believe was a good man) told them he would stop at Kanchan Dhaba, Secundarabad & they could take their stuff from the bus there. Now, these 4 passengers were quite stupid & goonish and started fighting the bus crew after snatching 5000 from the bus's crew, saying that the bus driver was a thief & this was his money. Just to give you an idea of the situation, there were guns involved (none fired though, but not the best situation to be at 3 o clock in morning during a 16 hour journey). After a good 2 hour long drama, the 4 stupid passengers reboarded our bus, and we were back to normal. At around 7 am in morning, near Shikhoabad, 2 cops with a Singh Travels guy entered the bus and very impolitely asked these 4 passengers to come out of the bus. And the bus left. Just like that. Can't say that those passengers deserved better, but this clearly gave us a glimpse of the goonish tendencies of Singh Travels. In Delhi, the driver very politely asked all of us to empty the bus at Aksharadham, saying the bus won't go further. After some nagging again, he decided to shower his mercy and dropped us at Anand Vihar Bus Station at 12.00 noon, sharp, instead of scheduled 5.00 am.
Overall my experience was long but entertaining. Since you guys have been kind enough to ask me for a feedback, I too would like to know why operators like Singh Travels should remain on your panel.
