I had booked three tickets (sleeper berths) for my wife, daughter and myself from Ooty to Bangalore departing at 8:30PM, Sam Tourist. Before the bus started, one person from Sam Tourist's Ooty office came and wanted me to exchange seats/berths as he claimed my seat and the one next to me were a ladies seats. I told him that this was not marked as a lady's berth while booking (ladies' berths are clearly marked in pink) but this was a general berth/seat. He said according to his chart it was a lady's seat. I asked him to show me his chart but he began to raise his voice saying he has been in service for 23 years and how can I doubt him, etc. I think he was actually trying to sell one more ticket to a lady who had approached him and he was trying to get me out of my seat so the lady could sit there. He also said since I had made an online booking all these problems were there. So are we being asked NOT TO MAKE ONLINE BOOKING? He kept blaming the process of online booking. All problems according to him were because of online booking. So REDBUS, what is happening? Why are your bus service companies saying online booking is creating problems? Your reputation is getting hit. I probably will use your service again and will also tell people not to do this. The booking through KSRTC website had no such problems.
Anyway, I exchanged seats with my wife but nobody came and sat next to her. Now the best part. About two hours into the journey, when everyone was asleep some more passengers boarded. The place was Metupalayam, I think. Then there was a man who had a ticket with a berth number next to my wife's sleeper berth (it was a double berth). So the first info at Ooty saying both these were ladies berths were wrong. So once again, we had to change berths after all that harassment.
It was a horrible experience on the whole with total disregard to the commitments made during booking. The staff does not care for the comfort and well-being of the passengers and there is nothing you can do since you have paid for the expensive tickets in full.
