This is a review of overnight journey from Goa (Mapusa) - Bangalore (Marathahalli) in Mar 2017. This was the first time I did an overnight bus travel, leave alone a sleeper bus, and I was pleasantly surprised when I entered the bus. Sure enough it looked clean, nicely laid out in 2+1 format, had clean curtains for privacy, and were each provided a bottle of water and a snack box. In each berth there's a power socket to charge your gadgets, a wall pocket to hold your papers, glasses, etc., and a private LCD screen that I didn't care to ask about. The bus started earlier than stated departure time when all booked travelers showed up earlier, which I thought was fantastic to save on overall journey time. The ride through the ghats was as you'd expect - a rollercoaster. The roads are bumpy but it doesn't bother you much. The ladder to the upper berth is right in the middle and can provide some discomfort when getting in and out of your lower berth... but it turned out to be a boon in the ghats and stops you from rolling over when the bus negotiates bends, else you'll be constantly clutching at some poles/ handles for dear life as you sway from side to side!
For dinner the bus stopped in Ankola around 10:15pm in a roadside place where several other tourist buses had. The large toilet had clean urinals and dry floors, I didn't check the latrines. I didn't venture into dinner and just had lassi - with no toilets aboard the bus and my first overnight bus travel I was wary of what I ate.
As far as sleep goes I didn't get much, but then I'm a terrible sleeper aboard any mode of transportation. Didn't bother me though - the bed and pillows were comfy.
I'd have given 5 stars but for two irritants: the overheard reading lights not working (I complained, they fixed it once, it went off again for the length of the journey) and the driver honking the loud pressure horn at every opportunity. He needs to be more sensitive to people inside especially in the wee hours of the morning. Pressure horns I'm told are illegal too and they need to get rid of that in any case.
